Back in days we have this one very entertainment resource in our houses i.e. TV with a single channel. I am a 90's kid so I have seen my entertainment interest changing very drastically from Doordarshan to multiple channels to choose from to Social media and now YouTube Series.
In India daily avg time spend on digital platforms is 1 hour and 18 minutes after Japan where people spend 3 hours 5 minutes and South Korea the time spend is 3 hours 26 minutes according to eMarketer’s latest forecast on time spent with media. 14.4% growth is expected this year in daily usage of digital platform in India among adults.
Indian internet infrastructure is still developing, In 2017 we spend 34 minutes with smartphones which is 23.1% more than previous year.
Overall media among the adult population in India will grow by 5.1% in 2017. As people in rural areas are connecting with smartphones because of cheaper smartphones and data plans.
No wonder digital media comes in the second place to TV in India, which will account for 55.3%, or 2 hours 11 minutes, of daily time spent with all major media—digital or otherwise. Daily TV time is expected to grow, especially in rural areas, on the strength of news coverage and sports broadcasts of cricket which will get an estimated daily time spent of 2 hours 11 minutes in 2017.
Radio listener-ship, has also grown because of expansion of FM radio. However, it is still far behind digital and TV. This year, adults in India will spend an average of 12 minutes listening to the radio each day, while print will take an average of 16 minutes.
So, while planning for upcoming promotional activity let try to utilize these numbers for better conversions.
